About Mike
Mike Guay was the strongest and most fearless powerlifter Canada had ever seen. He came to train with METAL MILITIA MONTREAL at Montreal Barbell after general training in a commercial gym and having competed in a few Quebec strongman competitions. Mike wanted to train strongman lifts in the summer and in winter wanted to try powerlifting. Mike learned technique very quickly and went from a raw bench of just over 405 pounds to a raw bench of 550 lbs for almost three reps. He learned gear or equipped lifting very quickly and within a very short year and a half, Mike took away the all-time Canadian biggest bench from Clint Harwood with his 810 lb bench press. He later went on to achieve incredible gym lifts. In my own words:
I started powerlifting to strengthen my bones. Along the way I was lucky to find the right people to coach me. Wade Phillips on day one called Ernie Frantz and handed me the phone to give them my credit card number because he had ordered all my lifting gear for me. I didn't choose raw or geared, everyone in powerlifitng was lifting geared and to compete, I needed to get my gear and start lifting.
